Associated group leaders are employed by other departments but interact strongly in their research projects with research groups at UPSC. They take benefit from the UPSC scientific environment and infrastructure.
New associated research group leaders are proposed to the UPSC board which takes the final decision. Prerequisites are that the group has strong collaborations with researchers at UPSC and a good research profile that complements research at UPSC.
In return, UPSC is expecting that associated research group leaders mention UPSC as second affiliation on all publications that are resulting from collaboration with UPSC and/or for which UPSC’s infrastructures were used. Moreover, associated researchers are expected to present an overview about their research on the UPSC homepage and give an introductory talk at UPSC.
Here, you can find more information about our associated research groups:
-
Björklund, Stefan - Functional Studies of Mediator in Plants
Plants need to integrate an array of signals to regulate complex patterns of gene expression. This is important since plants have specialized needs to respond to changes in the environment.

Funk, Christiane - Unlocking the value of Nordic microalgae
My research within the subject photosynthesis currently has developed into two different projects: 1. Finding the function of plant proteases and 2. Investigating the potential of Nordic microalgae for wastewater reclamation and biomass generation.

Hvidsten, Torgeir R. – Evolutionary analysis of gene regulatory networks
In my research group, we use machine learning methods and large-scale genomics datasets to model how genes interact in regulatory networks, how regulatory networks evolve and how they give rise to complex properties characteristic to individuals and species.

Jämtgård, Sandra – Plant Nitrogen Availability
My group’s research revolves around understanding the mechanisms governing plant nitrogen availability at the root-soil interface. A key tool in our research is the sampling technique microdialysis.

Leppälä, Johanna - Genetics of speciation
Plants commonly have strategies for both sexual and asexual reproduction. In my research, I am interested in both sexual and asexual reproduction of plants.

Näsholm, Torgny - Ecophysiology and Molecular Biology of Plant Organic N Nutrition
Plant nitrogen nutrition is a topic that challenges the researcher with a number of problems not encountered in other areas of plant mineral nutrition research. The diversity of N forms present in the soil, their interconversions, their different chemical and…

Schröder, Wolfgang P - Structure and function of Photosystem II from higher plants
My research has been devoted to biochemical and biophysical analysis of various parts of higher plant chloroplasts. Primer focus is on the protein complex PSII, how the oxygen is produced and how the protein matrix in and around the complex…

Stavrinidou, Eleni – Plant Bioelectronics
The research in my group focuses on developing bioelectronic technologies for real time monitoring and dynamic modulation of plant physiology.
