The "UPSC Centre for Forest Biotechnology" has been selected as one of four Berzelii centres to receive 10 years of support from the Swedish Research Council (VR) and the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA).

"200 miljoner kronor till skogsforskning vid UPSC " 200 miljons to forest research at UPSC

The total support is 100 million SEK from VR and VINNOVA and another 100 million SEK from SLU, Umeå University and Forest Industry. The support is granted for excellent basic research with clear visions of applications. Within this Berzelii centre, the researchers at UPSC will work to solve important basic questions for tree biology and biotechnology, which have the potential to lead to applications in forestry and in the forest industry. Except for SLU and Umeå University, the participating industrial partners are Sveaskog, Bergvik Skog, Holmen Skog and SweTree Technologies. The Swedish forest industries federation (Skogsindustrierna) will also collaborate in setting up workshops where research results and applications will be disseminated to all Swedish forest industries.
